depression and anxiety

  • Our Take Your Life Back: Break Free from Depression and Anxiety Program is designed to help you to overcome depression and anxiety and to enable you to gain back control over your own life.
Imagine being able to enjoy life again. Imagine being able to go through the day feeling calmer, more positive, more confident and in control, knowing that the cycle of worry, rumination, constant exhaustion and hopelessness has stopped. Imagine feeling energised and looking forward to whatever the day brings. Imagine feeling confident enough to take any activity in your stride and enjoy situations that you would have avoided in the past

Over the course of the program, we will:
  • explain what depression and anxiety are, how they start and are maintained and why you feel hopeless, helpless and like you have no control over your life
  • reduce the mental and physical exhaustion that you are experiencing so you start feeling rested and energised again
  • help you to balance your thinking so you can find your way out of the black-and-white, all-or-nothing thinking pattern that is typical of depression and anxiety and so you are not plagued by negative thoughts
  • reduce the amount of worrying and introspection you are doing
  • help you to resolve any practical problems that are causing you stress
  • work on any relationship difficulties you may be having
  • as you feel better, gradually introduce elements to your life that will protect you from becoming depressed again

Want to know more about anxiety?
Anxiety is a general term that refers to a range of circumstances. Whilst mild anxiety can be vague and unsettling, severe anxiety can have a debilitating impact on the sufferer. Anxiety causes nervousness, fear, apprehension and worrying. However, anxiety is
more than just worrying and feeling stressed when under pressure. These are normal reactions to being under pressure in specific stressful situations such as exams or job interviews etc. Usually, these feelings subside after the stressful event. For some people though, the stress, worry and apprehension are ongoing and debilitating and can interfere with a sufferer's ability to sleep, or function normally. Whilst there are several types of anxiety and the symptoms can differ from person to person, the following can be telling signs:
  • feeling very worried, anxious, apprehensive or helpless much of the time
  • finding it diffcult to calm down
  • feeling overwhelmed or frightened by sudden feelings of intense panic
  • experiencing recurring negative thoughts that cause anxiety, but may seem silly or unimportant to others
  • avoiding certain situations that cause anxiety such as social events, meetings, crowded places

Anxiety is very common. It is estimated that 1 in 4 people will experience anxiety in their lives and that approximately 2 million Australians suffer anxiety in a 12-month period (Australian Bureau of Statistics. (2008). National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing: Summary of Results, 2007 (4326.0). Canberra: Australian Bureau of Statistics). Don't suffer in silence!
